Jim Smith Trounces John Davis 174-16

Cloverdale’s Board representive for Endeavor aka CCRTC is Jim who ALMOST didn’t put his name in.

I don’t think a recount will be necessary.

This is really rich.  Over the past few years, reportedly, Davis/Whitaker and friends were saying there were just a few families in Cloverdale (mine being one) who were causing all the trouble.  Yeah, right.  Looks like 173 other households agree with mine.  Anyone care to guess and count on your fingers and toes who the 14 households who agree with Davis/Whitaker?

UPDATE:  not 14 households as a few businesses might also put in for him.

Phone Company Endeavor/CCRTC vote Thursday, March 20 6-8pm

Apparently, there are others who are concerned, as I received a picture and more in a couple of emails:

IMPORTANT

PLEASE DO NOT FORGET ABOUT THE CCRTC (ENDEAVOR) BOARD MEMBER ELECTION.
THURSDAY MARCH 20, 2008 6:00 P.M. TO 8:00 P.M.
AT THE BUSINESS OFFICE LOCATED AT 2 SOUTH WEST STREET IN CLOVERDALE.
PLEASE VOTE FOR JAMES R. SMITH.
IN MY OPINION WE DO NOT NEED JOHN DAVIS AS A BOARD MEMBER. I BELIEVE THAT WOULD BE VERY BIG MISTAKE.

If you are concerned as I am that John Davis might slip through the cracks and get seated on the phone company board, I suggest you get your butt over to the phone company in Cloverdale and vote this week for Jim Smith.  They only allow one vote per household and you may not know whose name your membership has on it.  If you are married and only one of you can make it to the Cloverdale office to vote, I strongly encourage you to call the office and ask whose name is on your membership.  765-795-4261.  If it is someone who can’t make it, download and fill out the attachment to take with you to vote.

Attached is a copy of the app. that is used for joint membership.  The items are hi-lited that must be filled out.   The completed form can be taken when you vote and the spouse of the member will be able to vote.  Only one vote per membership.

Could have seen it in the local papers around Cloverdale last year.

Wuz up at the Banner?

On February 29th, Keith Bodnarick, the reporter who covered Cloverdale town meetings after Zippy went back to IU, was summarily dismissed from his journalism job as described on his blog:  http://www.bannergraphic.com/blogs/1105/
I thought his coverage was fine and enjoyed his blogs, too.  He has a unique voice and perspective. Through common friends, I heard he was having difficulty blending the 2 jobs, reporter  by night and English teacher by day.
Then, a day or so ago, someone told me there was an ad in the paper for a new editor, so I checked out the contact section on their website and, sure enough, the Editor’s name was no longer there.
What the heck?  Where’s Lisa? Then I noticed Josie Bode, another quality writer was gone.  What the heck, where’s Josie?
More confusing,  Keith’s name was listed as a journalist.  What the heck?  If someone took the time to update names on a website, why was Keith’s name still listed?
Well, here is the scoop, at least part of the scoop.    Keith was contacted by the Banner and asked to come back, this time working part time, which is basically what he wanted in the first place.  The Publisher must have read the responses under Keith’s farewell blog.  Or, maybe he just read the articles that he wrote, the product, if I may.
He may or may not be back in Cloverdale for tomorrow’s meeting as the new kid on the block, Kevin Crafton, has been given the treat of covering the town.
Oh, and Little Josie is off to Chicago to work as an assistant producer in broadcasting.  Good Luck!

Refuse Refuse Handling

Anyone else hit with another somewhat arbitrary increase in their Cloverdale trash service?

The company has already increased rates due to fuel, and somehow, that was absorbed into the base rate sometime in the past.  Now they are increasing it again.

They added another $7.62 for Fuel/enviro services.  I do not feel like helping them pay for their newly acquired land fills.

$63.21 plus 7.62 + 70.23 times 4 quarters divided by 52 weeks comes out to $5.40 per week for roughly 10 minutes of work (2 guys) and driving very short distances between houses.

I will get back with you on the competition as soon as I get their rates.

Did the Judge Use the “F” Word?

They came into the Terre Haute court room laughing and giggling, but didn’t leave that way.

Yesterday, one of the many court cases that JjNn filed against Don Sublett as Town Council President came up in the Terre Haute courtroom.  Honestly, there are so many court cases, it is hard for me to keep track of exactly which one this was.  But I think it was to find Don in contempt.

Judy Sue-me Whitaker didn’t get on the stand, but John Davis did in their quest to have the judge agree with them that Don Sublett had acted in contempt of the court, the law and, of course, The Sanctimonious World According to She Who Must Be Obeyed and her Mini Me sidekick.

Even the Clerk was on the stand, but whenever Town Attorney Yackey asked her a question, you heard a lot of “I don’t recall”, “I don’t know”, and “I don’t remembers”.   However, when Mrs. Harrington asked her a question, she had an amazing recollection of events.  Some, would even say, well, “rehearsed” last Saturday when John Davis spent some time with her down at her office. Or maybe during the thrice weekly visits with Judy.  Come on, PJ, “Just Say No” and move on.  Work with the new board and close your door to the ousted board.

At any rate, Mr. Sublett, our guileless President, who was accused of signing documents without the full Board’s technical vote on everything, as well as other vile actions, had a remarkable memory and apparently, the Judge was able to see the suit was just “political wrangling.”  I think Yackey’s question to Davis asking whether he ran against Sublett in the last election and his follow up question as to whether it was true that he lost to Sublett 3-1 helped put things in perspective for the judge.

Back to my sensationalized title question worded to tease and entice the reader to dig in.  I don’t know whether the Judge ruled the case “Frivolous” or not, but he did dismiss it with prejudice, (JjNn lost again, wrong again) so that is close enough for me.

I betcha Hallam’s attorney, who happens to be the other Harrington, will be crossing off this Judge (if he is on the list to pick from) to replace Judge Headley.
